Remark 111.52.6. Given a projective scheme $X$ over a field $k$ and a coherent sheaf $\mathcal{F}$ on $X$ we set

$\chi (X, \mathcal{F}) = \sum \nolimits _{i \geq 0} (-1)^ i\dim _ k H^ i(X, \mathcal{F}).$
